Over a dozen years ago many of us were enthralled by the folding FMG9 “briefcase gun” from Magpul Industries.  It was the most innovative folding gun we’d ever seen in real life. Folding guns in the movies are, of course, rather hard to surpass when it comes to the cool factor.

Remember this video?

The Zev/Magpul Folding Defensive Pistol (FDP) uses a modified Zev Technologies OZ9 frame in a Magpul chassis and can be converted into the FDC9 (Folding Defensive Carbine) with an approved ATF Form 1 — keep in mind it’ll be an SBR.

The FDP (Folding Defensive Pistol) is just that: a folding gun. It has been described as a briefcase gun, though it looks more like a lunchbox to us. With an ATF Form 1 the FDP9 can be SBRed (i.e. made into a Short Barrel Rifle) in the FDC9 (Folding Defensive Carbine)

Magpul says,

“At SHOT Show 2008, Magpul introduced a folding concept gun that deployed single-handedly from a simple form factor into a short-barreled carbine. It was…a concept. In 2019, ZEV Technologies® released their OZ9 modular pistol using a unique receiver block that allows users to change grip frames to suit their needs. Soon after, Magpul and ZEV began working together to bring the folding gun concept to life. It involved a proprietary variant of the ZEV OZ9 operating system and a Magpul chassis.”

It’s too early to tell what distributors will have these folding guns in stock (though we’re pretty sure they won’t be available on Amazon USA).
